Engineering is aware of a very rare possibility of freezing and are looking to address it with a release of new software. The cause needs more research but the immediate fix is to reboot the machine if it occurs. We plan to look at how to avoid it when we are able to work on a future release of PAX software. it is exceedingly rare and cannot be purposefully duplicated in our testing but we do know the reboot solves it at present.

Freezing:

System Hangs, where the touchscreen simply becomes unresponsive, are far more common than the system crash.  System Hangs have no fix.  Swapping the SOM in this case will have no effect.  To recover from a system crash, the power must be manually cycled to reboot the shuffler.

Crash:

On Pax S, a SOM swap should ONLY be used to resolve a shuffler that is experiencing frequent system crashes.  For example, three or more system crashes in one month.  The system crash is a very specific failure mode that is different than system hangs.

A system crash can be identified by having one or both of the following:

  • An unexpected reboot (not initiated by the operator)

  • Video glitches as shown in the photo below.  Notice the color channels are out of sync and offset slightly.
