Hardware

Grill Controller w/ 12vdc power supply

The grill controller gets its name because it looks like a George Foreman Grill. Plug the Ethernet cable into the port labeled DS.  The controller will beep at boot. This beep indicates it’s working, and you will have video. The power button on the front of the controller only puts it to sleep.

Software

Software will be sent on a USB stick.  The controller runs two different versions of software Maestro and DS.  The USB will also contain the visual assets the sign will display when set up.

DS

Digital Signage (old sign software) will still be installed by TAC or IAA. For DS to work the controller needs to have a static IP address, normally 10.0.8.9 or .8 depending if there is more than one controller on the network.

Maestro

Maestro is a three way communication protocol that allows the games to communicate with the sign, the sign to communicate with the progressive controller, and allows the games to communicate with the other games connected to the sign controller. Maestro (the application) requires 20.1 or newer Game Server.

Network

The Sign Controllers using DS will need to have a static IP address of 10.0.8.9 with subnet 255.255.252.0. The controller will ship with the network set to DHCP and it will need to have the IP assigned at setup. Maestro sign controllers can be left DHCP.

Pre-Install note

Maestro Installation

Although you can log into the controller from your laptop, it works better if you use the Progressive Controller, this way the screen resolution matches. If you call TAC or Product Support asking for help and the solution is to log in through the progressive controller, we will know you are not following the instructions and tell you to go read the manual.

Maestro requires the progressive controller to be 20.1 or greater, with the progressives set up before you can configure the sign content.

Dual Content on One Controller

V-Sync

Some game themes will have the cabinet interact with the sign or the sign interact with the cabinet.

Maestro 2.2 or higher is required for V-Sync.

V-Sync is a class 3 setting. No class 2 games use V-Sync.

Below is a video on what V-Sync is and how to configure it in the cabinet’s menu.

Titles

  • Musha (do not run dual content)

  • Mouko (do not run dual content)

  • Golden Catch

  • Booty Bay

  • Queens of Tides

  • Long Bao Bao

  • Shamrock Fortunes

  • Fishing Frenzy

Maestro 2.3 Changes

TechAssist

TechAssist 4.0 will now install Maestro just like the progressive controller software. The software is shipped on the same USB as the Progressive Controller software. Ensure Techassist 4.0 is installed before inserting the USB with Maestro.

Multi Monitor

Users can now add and remove displays at configuration menu. You can use UI buttons or the up or down keys to activate this.

Normally, users who remote into a grill can only configure for the number of displays that they are using to remote in with rather than the number of displays on the cabinet. This allows for users to configure for any amount of displays regardless of their RDP settings.

Auto Configuration

On startup, the sign presenter will attempt to auto config the number of detected displays with applicable packages. A menu pops up on startup with a countdown to auto config and all display and package combinations that will be used in configuration. Pressing any key or clicking the mouse cancels this process.

Keep in mind that if the user is remoting in, the number of displays will be equal to the number of displays used for remoting in which may not equal the number of displays you want to configure. In this case, you should cancel auto configuration.

Issues:

The software does not place a shortcut in the start up folder to run at boot. The watchdog service starts the sign presenter after about 5 minutes. What the means is, after the sign has been configured and the controller is restarted it will not display the theme content until the watchdog service notices the sign presenter is not running. This should be fixed in the next release of Maestro.
